The Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) / Safe Restraint & De-Escalation Training provides residential childcare and supported accommodation staff with the essential skills, knowledge, and professional judgement required to prevent, manage, and safely respond to crisis behaviour. Rooted in trauma-informed practice, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), and legal frameworks (Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Supported Accommodation Regulations 2023, Human Rights Act, Equality Act, and Ofsted SCCIF), this course teaches staff to recognise early warning signs, use effective de-escalation strategies, apply approved physical intervention techniques only as a last resort, and ensure the emotional and physical safety of children and young people. Staff also learn how to record and report incidents accurately, reflect on practice, and contribute to a culture that minimises restraint and prioritises therapeutic, relationship-centred care.
